Just Got Made • 05 Aug 2014

Pinboard: A fortnightly edit of happenings in the Maker Movement – News, Trends & JGM’s Favourite Finds…

Our beautiful, visual pinboard

1. DO: Envelope Template

That’s right, we start with DIY. Stationery wizards Present & Correct have found these marvellous French templates for envelopes & packaging – just place on the paper of your choice, cut & crease.

2. WATCH: Computer Arts Magazine x Celloglas

If you’ve already got your hands on Julys ‘New Talent’ issue of Computer Arts, you’ll be aware of it’s amazingly strong scratch and sniff lemon cover! This video goes behind the scenes at Celloglas – print finishers – to show the process of printing with scented varnish.

3. GO: Hauser & Wirth Somerset

Hauser & Wirth Somerset is a gallery and arts centre is freshly opened and very beautiful, being built round an existing farm site and surrounded by Somerset’s spectacular rural landscape. The inaugural exhibition is Phyllida Barlow’s vibrant show GIGWell worth a visit.

4. WATCH: Jacqueline Mina: Gold

Jacqueline Mina is a jeweller who uses traditional goldsmithing techniques to make her very modern designs. Jacqueline talks though her process and working practice, making this video quietly captivating and something that has stayed with us through the week.

5. OPPORTUNITY: Cockpit Arts / NADFAS Award

Applications for the seventh Cockpit Arts / NADFAS Award are open, which aims to support designer-makers working with traditional craft skills, particularly crafts requiring skills at risk of dying out. The winner will receive studio space and business support for a year. Good Luck! Further details here

6. DO: Pattern Library

The Pattern Library  is a brilliant store of patterns that are freely available to download and use in your own work. A godsend! If you’re feeling creative, submit your own patterns to appear on the site too.

7. PHOTOGRAPHY: View from the Tent

This pin isn’t exactly highbrow, but when sweating it out in a city day after day sometimes you need to see the great outdoors and some snowy mountains. View from the Tent Door is a simple tumblr that invites anyone to send in a photo from their tent door, with spectacular results. Sigh.. !

8. READ: Café Royal Books

Independent publisher Cafe Royal Books creates beautiful soft backed photo books / zines, with a new release every Thursday. These beautiful books blew us away, with intriguing topics and a mix of new and archival photography.
